Known as both the Gateway to Cranberry Country and the Place Where the I Divides, Tomah offers a surprising variety of recreational and entertainment options for a city its size. With a population of just over 9,000, Tomah is located at the intersection of Interstates 90 and 94 and is home to 2,500 acres of cranberry marshes.
Tomah is as much a great place to raise a family as it is to slow down upon retirement. It has six-screen movie theater and the Area Community Theatre, along with rollerskating, ten parks and The Tomah Aquatics Center.
The River Valley is known for its scenic bike trails, and Tomah is no exception. The nearby Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail offers 32 miles of wilderness passing through three railroad tunnels, and the Lemonweir River Walking Trail that stretches between two of the parks.
Those aren’t the only outdoor recreation options, however. In addition to three golf courses, you’ll also find plenty of fishing and hunting opportunities as well as 270 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. You’ll also find great spots for camping and canoeing. And downhill and cross-country skiing, tubing and snowboarding are just 20 minutes away at the Whitetail Ridge Ski Area.
Tomah also offers plenty of shopping possibilities, including everything from Amish and cranberry goods to the Antique Mall that appeals to even the most advanced collector. When you’re ready to relax, you’ll find plenty of dining options, including cafes, family-friendly restaurants, supper clubs and fast food.
To outsiders, Tomah is well known as host to the annual Budweiser Dairyland Super National Truck & Tractor Pull, a four-day each June that draws thousands of spectators from around Wisconsin and other states.
Thousands more visit the Tomah area each September for the annual Cranfest held in neighboring Warrens. The festival features miles of booths presenting crafts, demonstrations, contests and arts along with a parade, marsh tours and fun foods.
