Focus on Energy, a program offered in partnership with Wisconsin utilities, is now offering a $75 cash incentive for qualifying smart thermostats. That represents a 33 percent discount, for example, on the Nest Thermostat which typically runs around $200. And if you’re willing to bargain shop, it could represent a savings of up to 45 to 50 percent.
Across the river, Minnesota Energy Resources will pay 50 percent (up to $100) of the total cost for smart thermostats.
And if you’re installing a new furnace (or cooling equipment) for the cold months ahead, ask your service provider to install a smart thermostat at the same time and receive a wad of additional energy incentives.
